About Wichita, Kansas
Once upon a time, on the Chisholm Trail from Texas to Kansas, there was a little cowtown called Wichita. That little town turned into a big city, but the dust of the Old West lives on.
In the heart of the city old architectural touches from a more recent past include bricked streets among brick warehouses converted to contemporary uses.
Charlie Parker here made the first "complete" jazz recording in 1940.
It's a nice place to live, Wichita is, with a balance between activities and just plain quiet. If you come, ask where The Keeper of the Plains stands and take a moment to contemplate the beauty of the two rivers he guards.
Most people don't know that White Castle Restaurants started here. There aren't any left, but their absence isn't the whole story.
